Can’t synch Hotmail account in Outlook 2010 via OutlookConnecter 64-bit

Ran into this error while synching my email in Outlook 2010:

Task ‘<your_email_account>’ reported error (0x8DE00002) : ‘There is an error synchronizing your mail account. Please verify your account is configured correctly by first accessing your mail on the web.  Error: 4102. Client. Object with Id appears in more than one command. ‘

I couldn’t get incoming mail but could send just fine.  I immediately thought about running Inbox Repair but couldn’t find it in Outlook 2010.  Apparently it’s called, “Office Diagnostic Tool”.  I should have found it in the “Microsoft Office/Microsoft Office 2010 Tools” menu but it wasn’t there.

I Binged for the executable name of the diagnostic tool, which is ODSERV.EXE, and searched for it on my system but wasn’t on my system.  I recall in the past I used “SCANPST.EXE” (Microsoft Outlook Data Files Scan-Repair Utility) so I searched for that and found it in, "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\SCANPST.EXE".  I closed out of Outlook, ran SCANPST, located my OST file (not PST) and started the scan.  It took a little while since I had 3gig worth of email.

It found errors and I repaired them.  After it was done, I started Outlook 2010 and tried to synch again.  It seems to work but it was very slow.  It seems Outlook was trying to reconcile information in the OST file with that of the Hotmail server.

I kicked off Resource Monitor and found Outlook was busy doing lots of reads to the OST file, spinning up over 30 threads, and keeping a 30kb channel to the following servers:

After an hour of this, Outlook did eventually complete its task(s) and things are looking normal.  It’s unclear what caused the OST to corrupt but running SCANPST fixed it.

Aside: Does the Office Diagnostic Tool (ODSERV.EXE) for Outlook 2010 even exist?

Update: Recently (3/18/2011), this fix worked but the problem kept coming back immediately.  I decided to reinstall the Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector 64-bit.  That didn’t help.  I then uninstalled all my social connectors for Outlook such as LinkedIn, Live Messenger and Facebook.  That helped but then I got this error:

Task ‘Your_Email_Here’ reported error (0x8004102A) : ‘Error with Send/Receive.’

I Binged and found this KB – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2231628 , which mentioned about potential bad calendars causing this error.  I looked in my list of calendars and did find one that was out of date (obsolete).  I removed that and everything is back to normal again.

So, I’ll re-download and reinstall my social connectors again one by one and see if the problem comes back.  (Why so complicated, eh?)

If you try this, let me know how it worked out with a comment!
